Two Tractor Trailers Crash On I-70 Near Rt. 32 in Howard County Monday Morning

The wreck closes that section of the highway for more than four hours.

 

 

Mt. Airy, Md (KM) The crash of two tractor trailers along westbound Interstate 70 in Howard County early Monday morning closed that stretch of the highway for more than four hours.

Shortly after 3:30 AM, State Police say one big rig carrying four cars crossed over the overpass of Route 32 and jackknifed., separating the car carrier from the truck. The carrier slammed into the guardrail and flipped into the median., causing the four cars to roll into the median. The truck tractor spun into the travel portion of the highway.

Shortly afterward, a second tractor trailer carrying pineapples crashed into the truck tractor, forcing both vehicles off the roadway into a grassy area where the truck tractor burst into flames.

The operator of the truck with the car carrier, identified as Ebenezer Anin, 40, of Elkridge, was transported to Howard County General Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The driver of the other tractor trailer, Efran Quintana, 52, of West Grove Pennsylvania, was not hurt. The pineapples he was carrying in his truck did not spill as a result of the crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident..

Troopers say I-70 was icy at the time of the crash. The investigation is continuing.
