Frederick County Correctional Officer Dies In The Line Of Duty

Officials  say he was well regarding by his co-workers and supervisors.

 

 

Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says one of its correctional officers has died in the line of duty. Correctional Officer First Class James A El Shafey, 25, of Hagerstown was working Thursday night when he suffered a cardiac arrest. Co-workers, medical personnel at the Detention Center as well as EMS tried to resuscitate him, but they were not successful.

El Shafey is a four-year veteran Correctional Officer who leaves behind a wife, Jacklyn, and two young daughters.

“CFC El Shafey was a truly professional employee that was well respected by his peers and supervisors within the Detention Center and Sheriff’s Office family,” says the Sheriff’s Office, in a statement. “CFC El Shafey was extremely proud of his position and career as a Correctional Officer and every employees of the Sheriff’s Office is feeling the effect of his loss. Sheriff’s Office personnel are working closely with CFC El Shafey’s surviving family to meet any needs associated with his tragic situation.”

County Executive Jan Gardner says she’s “deeply and profoundly saddened’ by El Shafey’s death. “My heart goes out to his wife, Jacklyn, and their two daughters. To lose a husband an father at such a young age is devastating,” says Gardner in a statement. “May the El Shafey family take comfort in knowing that their extended family of Frederick County Government employees is here to support them through this difficult time. To James’ colleagues at the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, I offer deepest sympathies in this time of grief.”

As of Friday, funeral arrangements have not been finalized.
