Mayor O’Connor To Hold First Informal Meeting With Citizens In March

It will be held outside of city hall.

Frederick, Md (KM). Frederick citizens have an opportunity early next month to meet with the mayor outside of city hall. At his public information briefing on Friday, Mayor Michael O’Connor said he will meet informally with residents on Friday, March 9th at the new Waffle House at 317 South Jefferson Street, from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM.

O’Connor hopes it’s the first of many meetings he plans to hold with citizens away from city hall. “So the intention with these also is to get them out into neighborhoods all over the city of Frederick,” he says.

The Mayor also hopes to hold these meetings on a monthly basis. “At the end of the year, we’ll perhaps been in every NAC; maybe not every neighborhood but we will have been close to every neighborhood; at a time of day when where we hope people will come. We’ll be able to adjust that as well.”

He says meeting outside of city hall can be beneficial for citizens. “We want to try and meet the community where they are, as opposed to having them come to city hall where we haver the home field advantage,” says Mayor O’Connor.

The Mayor says this is part of his commitment to expand civic engagement.

No appointment is necessary for the March 9th meeting with Mayor O’Connor.

Former Mayor Randy McClement met with citizens informally, but usually  at city hall.
