UMD Student Accused Of Threatening To Shoot Campus Police Officers

His lawyer says it stems from a room mate dispute.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) – A University of Maryland student is accused of threatening to shoot campus police officers.

News outlets report University of Maryland police arrested 21-year-old Ryan Matthew Sulkowski, of Baltimore, on Sunday. He was charged with threatening mass violence and disturbing school operations.

Police said in a release that they had received a report of Sulkowski speaking about applying for a firearms permit, having access to firearms, and shooting officers at the College Park campus.

Sulkowski’s lawyer, Gary Bernstein, says the accusations stem from a roommate dispute. Bernstein says Sulkowski wasn’t an applicant for a Maryland firearms permit and police haven’t found weapons.

He said Sulkowski underwent an emergency evaluation Saturday, and wasn’t found to be a threat.

He was released on his own recognizance Monday, and has withdrawn from the university.
