Frederick-Linganore High Game Thursday Will Not Be Open To The Public

The School System says it wants  create a ‘safe environment’ for the students.

Frederick, Md (KM)( Thursday’s girls basketball game between Frederick High and Linganore High will not be open to the general public. In a statement posted on the “Find Out First” site, the Frederick County School System says this decision was made to maintain a “healthy competitiveness” and a “safe environment” for the students.

In a game in January between the two schools, racial comments were directed at the Frederick High players, who are mostly African-American, allegedly by adults in the stands.

The game Thursday between the two schools will take place at the BB&T Arena at Hood College, and will only be open to student athletes, their families and coaches. Each student athlete will receive four tickets for family members.

The game will be streamed live on You Tube so students and the public can see it. You can also listen to it on WFMD, 930 AM.

Spokesman Michael Doerrer says the School System received dozens of complaints about hostile fan behavior during the January game. He says the School System conducted an investigation, and was told by eyewitnesses that most of those making racial slurs were adults, not students.

Doerrer says Superintendent Dr. Theresa Alban visited the Frederick High girls team last week, and said she will continue to listen to their concerns.
