Police say he tried to stab several people.
Frederick, Md (KM) With the assistance of citizens, a Frederick Police Officer managed to place a man under arrest for assault.
Authorities say Officer Scott Long was on foot patrol Saturday afternoon at around 1:52 in the area of North Market and West Patrick Streets when a man ran past him, dropping a butcher knife. Several citizens told Officer Long that the individual tried to stab them. Officer Long went after the man and confronted the suspect in at 29 North Market Street.
The individual, identified as Stuart Addison Delchamps, 22, had a second knife, and screamed at the officer to shoot him. Officer Long ordered DelchampsĀ several timesĀ to drop the weapon, which he did eventually,.
As the officer took Delchamps to the ground, authorities say the suspect assaulted him. Several citizens arrived to help Officer Long detain the suspect until other police could come to the scene and assist.
Delschamps was taken to the hospital for an evaluation before being transported to the Adult Detention Center. He’s charged with three counts of 1st-degree assault, five-counts of 2nd-degree assault, two counts of disorderly conduct, two counts of failure to obey the lawful order of a police officer, and one of resisting arrest.
In a news release, the Frederick Police say they would like to thank “the amazing citizens” who took action to assist Officer Long.
