Weather Warnings, Closures For Tuesday

Snow is falling on the first of spring

 

 

Frederick, Md.  (KM).  It’s not supposed to happen on the first day, but it’s snowing.  The National Weather Service in Sterling, Virginia has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Frederick and Carroll Counties in Maryland, and Jefferson County in West Virginia until 8:00 PM on Wednesday..  Ten to 16  inches of snow is  expected to fall during the day.

The Weather Service says says travel will be difficult to impossible.  Anyone who preparing to venture out is urged to be prepared for reduced visibilities.

The snowy weather is causing several cancellations.  Frederick County Public Schools have dismissed students two hours early.  All PM pre-K and Career and Technology classes are also canceled.  All public school system after school activities  and evening classes are canceled.

The County Council mee4ting and public hearing scheduled for this afternoon and this evening are canceled.  District and Circuit Courts Courts  will be closing at 2:00 PM Tuesday.

The City of Frederick has put its Snow Emergency Plan into affect starting at 2:00 PM.  Vehicles parked in designated snow emergency routes must be removed by 4:00 PM.

Frederick County Government says its  employees are on liberal leave as of 12-noon.  All county offices and facilities will close at 2:00 PM.

Hood College closes at 1:00 PM.  There will be no evening classes or activities.

Frederick Community College will close at 2:00 PM today.

Mount Saint Mary’s University’s Emmitsburg and Frederick campuses closed at 11:00 AM, along with the APCC and the National Shrine Grotto.  All activities are canceled for the day.

Frederick Memorial Hospital is also announcing closures due to the weather:

FMH Home Health closed at 12:00 PM today.

All FMH Birthplace tours are canceled Tuesday evening.

Hospice of Frederick County has closed for the day.  Current patients may still call in and be connected to a nurse, if necessary.

City of Frederick government offices are closing at 2:00 PM today.  But even though non-essential offices will be closed, the Frederick Community Action Agency and the foodbank  will be operating on their  regular schedules.  Officials say the  soup kitchen will be open from 5:30 PM  to 6:30 PM to serve a free evening meal.

Frederick County Public Libraries will also  be closing today at 2:00 PM
