Traffic To Be Shifted On I-70 Bridge Over I-81 In Washington County

SHA says it’s part of rehabilitation work for that span.

Baltimore, Md (KM). Motorists who normally travel the westbound Interstate 70 bridge over I-81southwest of Hagerstown  will notice a shift in traffic patterns late Sunday night. “What we’re going to be doing is switching that traffic,  shifting it over to those CD lanes, and then we’re going to begin rehabilitating the right hand side of that bridge,” says Charlie Gischlar, State Highway Administration spokesman. The CD lanes are the collector-distributor lanes which are merge lanes on the side of the bridge.

This work is expected to begin Sunday, April 15th, at 9:00 PM, and continue until 5:00 AM on Monday, April 16th. “This is part of the ongoing bridge rehabilitation project,” he says.

SHA says the contractor for this project, Triton Construction, Inc. of St. Albans, WV, will be using arrow boards and construction barrels to close single lanes during the traffic shift.

If you happen to be traveling in that area late Sunday and early Monday, Gischlar says be aware of the roadwork. “There’s going to single lane closures and occasionally those rolling type of roadblocks while we pick up cones and barrels. So you want to give yourself some extra time,’ he says.

The entire project should be completed by the spring of 2019, according to SHA. The cost is $9.1-million.
