Local Lawmaker Talks About Amazon Tax package

Amazon’s second headquarters would bring 50,000 jobs to area if located in Montgomery County.

Frederick, Md. (DG) – Montgomery County is one of 20 locations trying to lure Amazon to build their second headquarters in the county. To help, the Maryland General Assembly passed a massive tax incentive package.

Maryland lawmakers approved $6.5 billion in tax incentives for Amazon. This tax package comes on top of an additional $2 billion in promised infrastructure and transportation improvements for the White Flint Mall area of Montgomery County.

Delegate Bill Folden said fours years ago, lawmakers wouldn’t have made such a bold move.

“Prior to Gov. Hogan being here, there was constant tax increases, we were constantly functioning in the red,” Folden said. “We are a stable platform now, we have got our house in order, and these are tax payer dollars.”

Amazon’s second headquarters would bring up to 50,000 jobs to Montgomery County.

Other possible locations for Amazon’s second head quarters are D.C., Northern Virginia, Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and Nashville.
