Regional Homelessness Down, Increase in Frederick County

Frederick, MD (KK) – A new report from the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments says there has been a decrease in people experiencing homelessness. While homelessness decreased in the region overall, in Frederick County, there has actually been a two percent increase. The report says, in 2017, there were 309 homeless individuals in the county, but this year, there are 316.

“It appears that we may have seen an influx of new homeless persons. That may have been the reason for the increase in Frederick County,” said Michael Ferrell, chairman for COG’s Homeless Services Committee.

Fairfax County saw the biggest increase with an additional 23 people experiencing homelessness. In Loudoun County, there was a 19 percent increase. Montgomery County had a six percent decrease.
