He will also be on supervised probation after he’s released.
Frederick, Md (KM). A Frederick man will be spending a long time in prison. In Circuit Court on Tuesday, Judge Theresa Adams sentenced Joseph White, 21, to 60 years incarceration. But she suspended all but 15 years in the Division of Corrections. After he’s released, White will be placed on five-years of supervised probation.
White pleaded guilty on August 29th, 2017 in four different cases to two counts of 1st-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit 1st-degree burglary, theft less than $1,000, possession of marijuana and a violation of probation for some new offenses.
State’s Attorney Charlie Smith says in early March, 2017, Frederick Police and the County Sheriff’s Office developed White as a suspect after receiving reports of numerous burglaries in the area. Authorities set up a surveillance of White on April 14th, 2017. They observed a vehicle where White was a passenger. They arrested him that day. “They were finally able to do a search of the vehicle, found some items. They did a search of his room at his parents’ residence. They found numerous items identified by the victims as being stolen from these burglarized residences,” says Smith.
He says in another incident, White broke into a home on September 2nd, 2016, and stole a resident’s credit card which the defendant used to make purchases.
In another case, White was arrested on October 27th, 2016, during a traffic stop. A deputy smelled a strong odor of marijuana, and a search was conducted. Authorities found 178-grams of marijuana, a black digital scale and $520 in cash.
Smith says the State is happy with the sentence. “He was linked to other numerous reports of burglaries. We weren’t able to quite prove that he did them all. But we were able to prove he did enough of them to warrant a 60-year, suspend all but 15-years to serve sentence,” he says.
