Suspect Arrested In House Fire Death In Sept.

He is charged with 2nd-degree murder.

 

 

Rockville, Md (KM) Montgomery County Police have charged a Bethesda man with 2nd-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. Daniel Lewis Beckwitt, 27, was arrested Friday afternoon in Burke, Virginia.  He’s awaiting extradition back to Maryland.

Police and fire and rescue responded on September 10th, 2017 to a house fire at Beckwitt’s home on Danbury Road. Authorities say Askia Khafra, 21, was found dead in the basement of the residence. The Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.

Montgomery County Police say they were assisted in Beckwitt’s  arrest by the Fairfax County Police Department and the US Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
