SHA Reopens Rt. 180 In The Brunswick Area

It was closed on May 16th following the heavy rains.

Brunswick, Md (KM). The Maryland State Highway Administration says the stretch of Route 180 (Jefferson Pike) between Petersville Road (Rt. 79) and Burkittsville Road (Rt 17) reopened on Thursday. Spokesman Charlie Gischlar says that  part of Jefferson Pike near Brunswick was closed on May 16th following the heavy rains that resulted in a washout.

He says it was projected that the roadway wouldn’t be reopen until July. “The emergency repairs were completed seven weeks ahead of the estimated two-month repair window,” Gischlar says.

“Repairs that were made included the washed out roadside slopes, installed stabilization rocks, rebuilt the bridge approaches, paved, re-striped and put guardrail in on Maryland 180 in the damaged area,” he says.

SHA says the cost of the repair work, done by Sheetz Construction, Inc., of Linthicum, is estimated at $300,000.

The bridge over Little Catoctin Creek was not affected by the storm, says Gischlar.
