Teenage Girl Killed In Vehicle Crash

Four other people were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

 

Middletown, Md (KM) A teenager was killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in the Middletown area.

State Police say at around 5:26 PM,  troopers responded to Route 17 (Myersville Road) near Harmony Road north of Middletown for the crash. Authorities say a Volkswagen passenger car was traveling southbound on Myersville Road when it crossed the double yellow line, striking a Ford Transit van head-on.

A 13-year-old girl who was killed in the crash was a back seat passenger in the Volkswagen; she was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers have not released her name.

The other occupants of the Volkswagen were Joshua Brant Swope, 35, who was the driver; Ronald Lee Swope, 72. a front seat passenger; and a two-year boy who also sat in the back seat. All three who are from Washington County were transported to Meritus Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

The operator of the Transit van identified as Christopher Michael Shipley, 31, of Frederick County, was medvaced to Shock Trauma.

Myersville Road in that area was closed for several hours while State Police conducted their investigation. Authorities say once the investigation is completed, it will be turned over to the State’s Attorney’s Office for its review.
