Damage ‘Minimal’ Following Small Fire At Claggett Center Building

No one was hurt.

Adamstown, Md (KM) A small fire at the Bishop Claggett Center in Adamstown Monday afternoon brought out  fire and rescue personnel.

Frederick County Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Troy Grossnickle says units were sent to 3035 Buckeystown PIke shortly after 12-noon. “Arrived on the scene, and we had a small fire really on the outside. Did really minimal damage on the inside of the structure,” he says.

Fire fighters had the flames out within minutes of their arrive, says Grossnickle. “No injuries. The building was evacuated. At the time the fire occurred, nobody was inside,” he said.

The County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire and determining  an official damage estimate.

Grossnickle says the building, known as Powell Hall, was being used as a summer camp for boys and girls.

The Bishop Claggett Center website says the 268-acre facility is used for conferences, and youth and adult retreats.
