One Arrest Made Last Weekend During DUI Checkpoint In Frederick

Police say about 700 drivers were stopped.

 

Frederick, Md (KM) About 700 drivers were stopped in the 1000 block of West Patrick Street in Frederick last Friday night. Police say it was part of a Sobriety Checkpoint conducted by officers to promote safe driving.

All vehicles heading westbound were stopped between 10:00 PM Friday and 2:00 AM Saturday, as officers checked for signs of alcohol impairment and other traffic safety violations. Each motorist was given a pamphlet with information on impaired driving .

One driver was arrested for DUI.

Police say these operations are conducted as part of a Toward Zero Deaths campaign and are funded by a grant from the Maryland Department of Transportation. During theseĀ  Checkpoints, representatives from Mothers Against Drunk Driving areĀ  present, along with representatives from the Maryland State Chemical Test and Alcohol Unit.

More than 1700 people died in Maryland over the last decade in car crashes involving a drunk driver, according to authorities. Police urge you to drive sober; and if you see a motorist driving impaired, contact local law enforcement.
