Equine Infectious Anemia confirmed in Montgomery County

The virus can be fatal to horses.


Annapolis, Md. (DG) -The Maryland Department of Agriculture has placed a 60-day hold order on a farm in Montgomery county where a stabled horse tested positive for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA).

The virus can be fatal to horses. EIA is not known to effect human health.

The Maryland Department of Agriculture will test the remaining 42 horses at the stable for the virus. The infected horse will be euthanized.
