Schey Appointed Director of Senior Services

She starts on July 30th.

 

Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick County Council on Tuesday approved the appointment of Kathryn Schey as Director of the Division of Senior Services.. She starts her new job on July 30th.

She was chosen for this position by County Executive Jan Gardner. “Kathy brings excellent community service experience, a fresh vision and love of seniors to this position,” says Gardner, in a statement.. “Addressing the changing need of seniors has been one of my top priorities, and I am pleased to appoint Kathy to this leadership role so the County can embrace the opportunities and take on the challenges that lay ahead.”

Creating a Division of Senior Services was a the top recommendation of the Seniors First Committee which the County Executive appointed during her firstĀ  year in office. By 2020, Frederick County will be home to more citizens over the age 60 than school-age children.

Programs and services currently managed by the Department of Aging will be shifted to the Division of Senior Services. Schey will oversee three new departments: Active Seniors, Aging Seniors and Operations.

Schey previously held positions at the Frederick Rescue Mission, including Director of Faith House, and Director of Development.

She earned a Master’s Degree in Management Of Aging Services from the Erickson School at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
