Mayor Chooses Executive Assistant

He starts August 1st.

 

Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor has appointed Gayon Sampson as Executive Assistant to the Mayor. O’Connor made that announcement during a public information briefing Monday afternoon at city hall.

“Gayon brings with him a deep affection for the City, extensive government experience, knowledge of Frederick’s past and a keen desire to see the City’s reach its greatest potential,” says Mayor O’Connor in a statement. “I’ve recently appreciated Gayon’s work on the Strategic Opportunities Advisory Team that examined the City’s organizational structure.”

Sampson is currently the community outreach adviser in the Office of Government and Community Affairs at Johns Hopkins University and Medicine. Prior to that, Sampson was a policy associate at the Greater Baltimore Committee, specializing in education and workforce policy. He was a member of Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh’s transition committee, and held appointment to  the Maryland State Board of Education and the Governor;s’ P-20 Leadership Council.

He’s a graduate of Tuscarora High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at Towson University. Sampson is working to obtain a master’s degree in public administration at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.

The Executive Assistant to the Mayor serves at the pleasure of the Mayor and performs duties as required by the City’s Chief Executive. Sampson will have no supervisory duties or responsibilities over any city employee.

Sampson starts his new job on August 1st. His salary will be $73,916 annually.
