Tractor Trailer Crash Causes Fuel Leak On I-81

Fire fighters were dispatched to contain the spill.

Hagerstown, Md (KM) State Police in Washington County are continuing to investigate a tractor trailer crash on Friday evening along Interstate 81.

Troopers were dispatched to I-81 near I-70 at around 6:00 PM. They say the big rig was traveling southbound on I-81 west of Hagerstown when the driver identified as Eldon Peachey, 58, of Slainsville, West Virginia swerved to avoid a collision. When he did that, the truck ran off the highway on the left side and into the median, striking a sign.

The collision caused the truck’s fuel tanks to leak, spilling an unknown amount of diesel fuel on to the round. The left lane was closed while crews cleaned up the spill.
