Get To Know Steve McKay

The Monrovia resident is seeking the Frederick County Council District 2 seat

Steve McKay, a resident of the Monrovia area, is seeking the position of Councilman for District 2 in his first political race.

McKay has extensive federal government experience and held a leadership role with citizens as they fought development in the county.

“I’ve been working in the national security field for the last 30 years. The last five years, I was the president of the community group that was concerned about growth and development decisions in Frederick County and our area of the county in particular,” McKay said. “We’ve argued strongly to get things like Monrovia town center. We appealed that approval, took it to court and we won. Monrovia town center was recently turned down and the old approval was vacated by the curcuit court and appealed; so we’ll see what happens there.”

McKay said working with Residents Against Landsdale Expansion (RALE) was his primary reason for seeking office.

“I want to run for council to be part of making better growth decisions. We can grow, but we need to grow in the right places with adequate infastructure” he says. “Or when we make those growth decisions that ensure we have infastructure in the future, it’s budgeted and planned.”

The republican candidate will be facing democrat Lisa Jarosinski in the General Election on November 6.
