Police Investigate Drowning at a Quarry In Hagerstown

The victim was a 19 year old from Gaithersburg, Md.

Hagerstown, Maryland (DG) – A 19-year-old Gaithersburg man has been identified as the victim in a drowning accident in Washington County on Friday.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is reporting Emile Victor Alex Pitt Jr. drowned in a quarry near Hump Road in Hagerstown.

Police responded to the quarry at around 3:30 PM for a report of a drowning.

Investigators say a group of friends jumped off the rocks into the quarry and were swimming when one person became fatigued and drowned.

A dive team from Berkeley County, West Virginia was called to the scene and located Pitt late Friday night.

The body was taken to medical examiner’s office in Baltimore for autopsy.

The area around the quarry is fenced and posted with “no trespassing” signs.

The sheriff’s office is continuing their investigation into the incident.
