Senior Services Division Announces Respite Funding Now Available for Caregivers

The subsidy is available in the amount of $350.

FREDERICK, MD.  (LG)   The Frederick County Senior Services Division, formerly known as the Department of Aging, has funding available for families in need of respite care.

“Respite stipend funds have been available through the Senior Services Division for some years, however, this year we found ourselves in a really unique situation, in that we have funds at this point, in the year, that we are looking to provide to families who maybe have a family caregiver of an individual over the age of 60 or with an early onset of dementia,” said Mary Collins, Caregiver Program Coordinator.

Funds can be used to reimburse for care purchased from an adult day center, in-home care agency, care facility or even from a friend or family member.  These funds can also be used to reimburse for medical supplies and equipment purchases, Collins added.

“”But you know we would consider other options as well. But really what we are looking to do is give the caregiver a break,” Collins said.

The subsidy is available in the amount of $350 per applicant per year.
