Body of Germantown Man Who Went Missing Has Been Found

He jumped off a boat and into the Sassafras River

Germantown, Maryland (DG) – The body of a Germantown man who went missing while swimming with friends over the weekend has been found,

Maryland Natural Resources Police are reporting the body of George Barnes III, 50, was recovered Monday morning at the mouth of Sassafras River.

He went missing on Saturday while swimming with friends off an anchored boat.

Barnes owns Dedicated Fitness Personal Training in Germantown.

Police say he and some friends had left a marina in Georgetown on Saturday.

Several people on the boat jumped into the water to swim. Barnes did not make it back to the boat, and his friends began searching for him.

Rescue teams searched for Barnes in the air and on the water.

His body was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
