‘Distraction’ Burglaries Under Investigation In Carroll County

One person distracts a resident, and a second person enters the home.

Westminster, Md (KM) Two “distraction” burglaries are under investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Last Wednesday, the residents of two homes on Hook Road in Westminster were the targets. One resident was contacted by a man who apologized for blocking his driveway the day before. While talking with the man, another person entered the victim’s home and stole money.

In the second case, another resident was contacted by a man claiming to work for public works and was installing waterlines in the resident’s backyard. That suspect directed the resident to the backyard while a second man entered the home and stole personal property.

Authorities say the suspect’s vehicle is a black SUV. One of the men is described as a white male with brown hair, clean shaven with a dark sun tan. The second person is described as a heavy set Caucasian male. Investigators believe the two are targeting elderly residents.
