She will submit her first-ever supplemental budget.
FREDERICK, MD – County Executive Jan Gardner on Thursday said she is advancing the design of two school construction projects in one of the fastest-growing areas of Frederick County. She will introduce her first-ever supplemental budget to advance an addition to Oakdale Middle School and construction of a new elementary school in the east county area. The design work will be funded by impact and school construction fees that are paid by developers.
“My goal is to address school overcrowding and have the developers pay their fair share,” Executive Gardner said. “Every student deserves a seat in a classroom, and these schools are desperately needed today.”
In addition to accelerating the projects, the County Executive announced plans to form an Adequate Public Facilities Advisory Committee to prevent school overcrowding in the future. The committee will meet twice a year to review and evaluate data related to public school capacities, enrollment, facilities, and growth trends, and to make recommendations to the County Executive.
“The committee will include staff from the administrative and legislative branches of Frederick County Government; representatives from Frederick County Public Schools, the Board of Education, the City of Frederick; and three members of the public, including one from a Parent Teacher Association,” Gardner added.
