Heavy Rains Cause Stormwater Overflow

This resulted in the overflow of wastewater into Carroll Creek south of the city.


Frederick, Md. – Heavy rainfall over the past several days exceeded the capasity of the City of Frederick Wastewater Treatment Plant. This resulted in the overflow of wastewater into Carroll Creek south of the city.

The overflow is occurring on the north side of the closed entrance to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The State of Maryland Department of the Environment and Health Department have been notified. The drinking water supply is not affected by this incident, and the City’s water supply is safe for all uses.

Signs have been posted cautioning the public to avoid the area. The public is reminded to stay out of the nearby construction area that is closed.
