Money Coming to Maryland Schools to Help With ‘Out Of School’ Programs

The money will go to Title I schools that serve many low income families.

Frederick, Md. (DG) – Over $16- million has been awarded to Maryland School Systems for ‘out-of-school’ time programs.

Maryland Department of Education spokesman Bill Reinhard said they received grants that have gone out to local schools systems to help boost the programs.

“These are programs designed to help keep students safe but to also help them learn,” Reinhard said.

The money will go to Title I schools that serve many low income families.

Reinhard said these programs are very beneficial to students because teachers and other community professionals work with the kids.

“Sometimes students from our economically disadvantaged neighborhoods don’t score as well as other students, and we want to change that,’ Reinhard added.

The grant money comes from the 21st Century Community Learning Centers.

Frederick, Washington, Howard, and Montgomery Counties will be receiving financial assistance.
