It says the county ranks very high when it come to crime prevention and schools.

Frederick, Md (KM). Taxes may be a dirty word to some people, but Frederick County citizens do get a good return for their tax dollars. That’s according to a report conducted by SmartAsset, a financial technology company based in New York City. The firm says it helps people make smart decisions about their finances.

“In this study, we looked at places all around the US to see where people are getting the most bang for their buck in property tax dollars. And we looked things like school rankings, crime rates, property taxes for every county,” says Senior Editor Ross Urken.

.”In terms of Frederick County, we found it ranks seventh in Maryland for getting most the most bang for your buck in terms of what you’re paying property taxes,” Urken says.

He says the county ranks number six when it comes to crime with 1,964 crimes per 100,000 people, and number four in school rankings. But the property tax rate is a bit steep. “Property tax is 1.16%. Number 19 in the state, a little bit high,” he says. “But with low crime and school rating, that what’s really boosting this county into the top.”

The study says Carroll County ranks number one in Maryland when it comes to citizens getting the biggest bang for their tax dollars. The property tax rate is 1.02%, and it  has a number 10 ranking for its schools, and the crime is 1,603 crimes per 100,000 people.

Montgomery County ranks at number eight with a tax rate of 0.93% tax rate, with a number seven ranking in schools and crime at  1,772 per 100,000 people, according to the study.

Nearby Howard County has the third highest tax rate in Maryland at 1.21%. The City of Baltimore has the highest property tax rate at 1.65%, according to the study.
