One Person Hurt In Four-Vehicle Crash

The crash occurred along Rt. 40 near Cool Hollow Rd.

 

Hagerstown. Md (KM) A four-vehicle collision in Washington County Friday morning sent one person to the hospital.

Maryland State Police say two trucks, an Isuzu and a Chevrolet, were traveling east along Route 40 near Cool Hollow Road while a Saturn and Toyota truck were heading westbound. The operator of the Chevy slowed due to traffic, but the driver of Isuzu failed to stop and struck the rear of the Chevrolet. That forced the Chevy into the westbound lanes where it hit the Saturn head on. The Toyota then hit the rear of the Saturn.

The operator of the Saturn, identified as Hazel Estelle Pearce, 35, was trapped in her car, and had to extricated by fire and rescue personnel.

She was taken to Meritus Medical Center by ambulance. Troopers say there were no other injuries.

The roadway was closed for about 90-minutes while State Police conducted their investigation.

Troopers identify the driver of the Isuzu as Robert Joseph Sheridan, 20. The operator of the Chevrolet truck was Scott Benjamin Stouffer, 43. And the driver of the Toyota truck was Betty Jean Wells, 37.
