Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Assisting With Animal Cruelty Investigation

11 cows and three  carcasses were confiscated by authorities.

Jefferson, Md (KM) The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office says it’s assisting in an animal cruelty investigation.

Detectives and Animal Control Officers executed a search warrant at a farm in the 3900 block of Lander Road in Jefferson on November 13th.. 11 cows and three carcasses were confiscated at that time. Necropsies will be performed on the dead animals.

The investigation began, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release, when Animal Control officers received a complaint on October 8th about a deceased cow on that property. Officers had been working with the owner to make sure that proper care was given to the animals. But after nutritional concerns were raised, the Sheriff’s Office was brought in to assist.

Necropsies done by veterinarians determined that the cattle were extremely emaciated and dehydrated.

The Sheriff’s Office says it will continue to assist Animal Control in this investigation.
