Free Bulk Trash Pickup To Begin Next Year

Residents must call ahead of time to arrange for pickups.

Frederick, Md (KM) After many demands from citizens over the years, the City of Frederick will bring back free bulk trash collection next year. That announcement was made Wednesday by Mayor Michael O’Connor during the State of the City address.

He said it will not be the same as the bulk trash pickup a few years ago. “The Sanitation staff and I have developed a new curbside bulk pickup plan that will achieve our goal to recycle more and use less landfill space by offering residents free curbside pickup on bulk items once a year,” he says.

The items which are accepted as part of the bulk trash collection are furniture, appliances, bicycles, large toys, swing sets, mattresses and box springs (3 per household).  In addition, mowers, weed cutters, trimmers and grills (tanks removed) will be accepted with the fluids removed.

More details on the bulk pickup program will be announced next year.

Residents who want to arrange for free bulk pickups must contact the city’s Department of Public Works at 301-600-1680, or 301-600-1377. But not before January 7th.

The city says citizens can get one free bulk trash pickup per year. But the city will continue to charge a fee for those who want to schedule more than one bulk trash pickup annually..
