The fire caused significant damage to a garage in Washington County
Hagerstown, Md. (DG) – A Washington County County man has been charged with arson.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal‘s Office is reporting they arrested 18-year-old Aleczander Dean Adams for a fire last year.
The investigation began after firefighters responded to a garage fire in the 17,000 block of Virginia Avenue in Hagerstown on July 1, 2018. It was determined an ignitable liquid was used to start and spread the fire. The blaze caused significant damage to the garage and roof.
Authorities report Adams was seen on surveillance video coming out of the garage moments before the fire started.
Initially Adams wasn’t able to be interviewed because he had enlisted in the U.S. Army. When investigators finally spoke with him last week, he confessed to setting the fire.
Adam was transferred from Arizona to the Washington County Detention Center on January 26, where he is being held without bond.
Adams is charged with first-degree arson, malicious burning, and malicious destruction of property.
