The alleged bullies could be facing criminal charges for making threats against the school.
Urbana, MD (DG) – A group of Urbana middle school students are under investigation by the school officials and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office after a bullying incident was captured on cell-phone video.
The video shows several kids surrounding another student. One of the boys accuses the boy in the middle of snitching on him for having a Juul, and that the device had gotten taken away. Some other kids start to encourage physical violence and the boy gets shoved. He tries to run away and is chased. The video shows the boy laying on the ground, saying ‘stop please stop’ while another student seems to punch him.
Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said the video has been widely shared on social media.
“This fight, it should not have occurred. It was wrong for the three to beat the one student up. But everybody gets this ramp up on social media, videos circulate, this thing becomes heightened. It escalates,” Jenkins said.
The alleged bullies could be facing criminal charges for making threats against the school.
“But then you get a basic good old fashioned fist fight between a couple of boys…..and now they’re talking about bringing in guns and knives. It’s totally out of control,” Jenkins added.
The victim was not seriously hurt.
Jenkins said there was additional police presence at the school last week.
The principal at Urbana Middle School is urging students and parents to use the school system’s website to report bullying or to report the behavior directly to school administrators.
