TJ High Student Chosen As Student Representative On The BOE

He will take over that position on July 1st.

 

Frederick, Md (KM) Malachi Macon has been chosen as the new student representative on the Frederick County Board of Education. A majority of middle and high school students chose Macon during an online voting process between January 17th and 31st.. Macon will take over the position currently held by Paige Tolbard on July 1st, 2019.. He will serve on the School Board during the 2019-20 academic year.

His duties are to bring a student viewpoint on education issues during Board of Ed meetings. Macon is does not represent any particular point of view or special interest group on any issue. But rather to respect the diversity of the students’ point of view, improve communications between the students, staff and BOE members,  and inform students of the policies and decisions made by the School Board, according to a news release from Frederick County Public Schools.

He says he will use social and school announcements to effectively represent the students.

Macon is sophomore at Governor Thomas Johnson High School, where he’s active in the Naval Junior ROTC. He’s also participated in the Robotics Club, All County Band and Chorus, theater and was captain of a Pop Warner football team called the Frederick Steelers. Macon has maintained at 4.5 weight grade point average and owns a season neighborhood landscaping business.
