Suspect Arrested In Fatal Hit & Run

Authorities say he failed to remain at the scene after striking a pedestrian.

 

Hampstead, Md (KM) A Westminster man has been charged with a fatal hit and run accident last Friday. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office says it’s charged Benjamin Batz, 31, who has a Westminster address, with failure to remain at the scene of an accident involving death, and failure to stop a vehicle at the scene of an accident involving death.

Deputies say a Ford F-250 belonging Batz, believe to be the striking vehicle, has been impounded for further investigation.

Authorities say a vehicle struck Eric Hendler, 31, of Hampstead, in the 1600 block of Brodbeck Road in Hampstead in the early morning hours of Friday, February 15th. Hendler was taken to Carroll Hospital Center where he died.

Batz was arrested later that evening.
