State Police Identify Trooper Involved In Shooting Earlier This Week

He still remains on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident.

 

 

Pikesville, Md. (KM) The identity of a state trooper involved in a shooting in Carroll County on Monday has been released. State Police say he’s Trooper First Class Tyler Michael, a six-year veteran of the agency who was assigned to the Westminster Barrack. ..

Investigators say Michael fatally shot Michael D-Angelo, 34, of Westminster, who was identified as a suspect in two destruction of property incidents just outside of Westminster.

Trooper Michael was in the area of Washington Road investigating two destruction of property incidents. One of the victims gave a description of the suspect. Authorities say Trooper Michael was traveling in his police cruiser along Washington Road near the intersection with Stoner Avenue when he spotted the suspect. He got out of his cruiser and went over to D’Angelo who was armed with a knife. . A confrontation took place, and Trooper Michael was stabbed, according to investigators. Michael shot D’Angelo with his service weapon.

D’Angelo was taken to Carroll General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Trooper Michael was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore where he was treated and released.

As he recovers from his injuries, Trooper Michael remains on administrative leave with pay while an investigation into this incident continues, investigators say.
