MDOT SHA Improves Ride Quality on Several Roads in Western Maryland

Work crews will patch and pave roads in Washington, Allegany and Garrett Counties.

(April 5, 2019) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is improving more than 50 miles of roadway in Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties this spring and summer. Work will include patching, milling, paving and restriping to deliver a better ride quality for thousands of motorists. The projects will be complete by mid-summer.

MDOT SHA will improve the following roads in Western Maryland:

Allegany County

MD 935 (Legislative Road/ Lower George’s Creek Road) between North Eutaw Street and MD 36 in Barton – Resurfacing (3 miles) – Average traffic volume – 1,100 vehicles daily.
I-68 (National Freeway) between Evitts Creek Bridge and Rocky Gap Road in Cumberland – Pavement repair (3.3 miles) – Average traffic volume – 25,000 vehicles daily.
MD 51 (Industrial Boulevard/Oldtown Road) between Virginia Avenue and Mexico Farms Road in Cumberland – Pavement repair (3.7 miles) – Average traffic volume 15,000 vehicles daily.

Garrett County

MD 42 (Friendsville Road) between the Youghiogheny River Bridge and Buffalo Run Road in Friendsville – Resurfacing (5 miles) – Average traffic volume – 3,700 vehicles daily.

Washington County

MD 65 (N. Church Street/Sharpsburg Pike) between MD 34 (E. Main Street) and Taylors Landing Road in Sharpsburg – Resurfacing (5 miles) – Average traffic volume – 3,700 vehicles daily.
MD 632 (Downsville Pike) between I-70 and Downsville Road in Downsville – Resurfacing (1.8 miles) – Average traffic volume is 12,600 vehicles daily.
US 40 Alternate (Frederick Road) between Lagoon Road and South Edgewood Drive in Funkstown – Resurfacing (one-half mile) – Average traffic volume – 6,550 vehicles daily.
MD 57 (St. Paul Road) between US 40 (National Pike) and MD 494 (Fairview Road) in Clearspring – Pavement repair (4 miles) – Average volume traffic 2,200 vehicles daily.
MD 63 (Spielman Road) between MD 632 (Downsville Pike) and MD 68 (Lappans Road) in Downsville – Pavement repair (2.8 Miles) – Average traffic volume – 2,100 vehicles daily.
MD 65 (Bakersville Road) between MD 63 (Spielman Road) and Poffenberger Road in Fairplay – Pavement repair (4.2 miles) – Average traffic volume – 9,000 to 22,700 vehicles daily.
US 11 (Middleburg Pike) between Haven Road and Showalter Road in Hagerstown – Pavement repair (2.5 miles) – Average traffic volume – 16,000 vehicles daily.
US 40 (National Pike/Cumberland Street) between Big Pool Road and east of Spickler Road in Clearspring – Pavement repair (7.9 miles) – Average traffic volume – 1,500 to 11,000 vehicles daily.
I-68 (National Freeway) between MD 903 (Mountain Road) and I-70 in Hancock – Pavement repair (7.5 miles) – Average traffic volume – 19,000 vehicles daily.

Motorists can expect single lane closures Mondays through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings. Motorists should plan extra travel time during construction.
