Couple Arrested For Animal Cruelty

Hampstead, Md. (DG) – A Hampstead couple was arrested Saturday on charges of animal cruelty after numerous dogs were found dead in their home.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded 4302 Black Rock Road on Friday for a welfare check on animals at the residence, and deputies found 38 dogs. Eleven dogs were dead.

On Saturday police charged John J. Roberts, 49, and Laura S. Filler, 55, with animal cruelty, aggravated cruelty, and hazardous substance/endanger pet.

Police say this is one of the most disturbing cases first responders have ever seen.

Animal control is continuing the investigation.
