Howard county, Md. (DG) – A Howard County woman has been arrested for killing her newborn baby last year.

Howard County Police have charged 38-year-old Moira Akers with first-degree murder.

Police were called to Howard County General Hospital on November 1, 2018, after Akers had been brought there by paramedics. They learned Akers had recently given birth in her home.

When investigators went to her residence, they found the body of a newborn baby boy in a zipped plastic bag under blankets in a closet.

An autopsy revealed the baby was born alive and the cause of his death was asphyxiation and exposure.

Police looked into her internet history and found while she was pregnant there were multiple searches on how to terminate a pregnancy.

Akers is being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center.
