WVa AG wants to expand school verbal abuse lawsuit
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia’s top prosecutor wants to add a county board of education and school administrators to a lawsuit alleging three educators verbally assaulted two autistic students at an elementary school.
Attorney General Patrick Morrisey on Tuesday announced he’s seeking to include the Berkeley County Board of Education, principal Amber Boeckmann and deputy superintendent Margaret F. Kursey in the suit.
He says the administrators tried to hinder the investigation and that the board is also responsible because it employed those accused.
The complaint says a teacher and two aides verbally abused the autistic students at Berkeley Heights Elementary in November. The three educators have resigned.
The incident was uncovered after a parent sent her child to school with a recording device.
The school board didn’t immediately return a voicemail seeking comment.
