Two Killed In Accident on 340

Both victims were from West Virginia

Knoxville, Md. (DG) – An accident turned deadly Thursday evening in Washington County.

Maryland State Police received a call about a two-vehicle accident shortly after 5 p.m. on Route 340 eastbound at Route 67 in Knoxville.

Their investigation revealed a blue Chevrolet HHR was traveling westbound on Route 340 at Route 67, when the driver turned into the emergency crossover and pulled into the left lane on 340 eastbound.

A black Mercedes sedan traveling eastbound Route 340 hit the rear of the Chevrolet.

Both passengers in the Chevrolet were ejected. One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The other passenger was flown by Trooper 3 to Mertius Medical Center where they were pronounced dead. They have been identified as Mark May from Shepherdstown and Glenn Bates from Kearneysville. The driver of the Chevrolet, Kenneth Tyner, was taken to Mertius Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the Mercedes, Lekan Oyedokun, and passenger, Laura Oyedokun, were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Route 340 esstbound at Route 67 was shut down for several hours while the accident scene was investigated.
