Frederick Man Gets 40 Years For 1st-Degree Rape

He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Frederick, Md (KM). A Frederick man received a stiff sentence on Thursday for 1st-degree rape. In Frederick County Circuit Court, Travis James Eddins, 39, was sentenced to life in prison with all but 40-years suspended. In addition, he will be put on five-years supervised probation when he’s released, and must register as a sex offender for life.

“The State’s Attorney’s Office is pleased with the results of this case. The defendant was given the maximum sentenced allowed under Maryland law,” says Will Cockey, spokesman for the State’s Attorney’s Office.

On December 8th, 2017, the victim reported to police that she was raped by Eddins. “She said she had spent the night prior in a tent with Eddins and her boyfriend. When her boyfriend left for work that morning, Eddins subsequently tried to strangle her inside the tent. And subsequently from there, raped the victim,” says Cockey.

The incident occurred in an area off of Highland Street in Frederick.

Prosecutors say the victim was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital with injuries consistent with near fatal strangulation.

Eddins was convicted on August 2nd, 2018 of 1st-degree rape. “The DNA evidence was a major factor in this case which linkedĀ  the defendant to the victim,” says Cockey.

Circuit Court Judge Scott Rolle handed down the sentence on Thursday against Eddins.
