Frederick County Fire and Montgomery County Firefighters Come Together to Support MDA Greater Maryland

By playing a friendly game of softball.

FREDERICK, MD.  (LG)   An effort to help raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Greater Maryland is taking place on Saturday, June 29th. The Frederick County Career Firefighters will be playing a friendly softball game against the Montgomery County Firefighters.

“It’s really important for the community to see that your local firefighters are the heroes, and they’re giving back everyday to the community, but they are also taking an extra step and giving back to people who are living with specific disease,” said Stacy Alford, Executive Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Greater Maryland.

The game will be held at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.  Tickets are $10 for admission with the gates opening at 2:30 p.m. and the softball game beginning at 3:00 p.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m.

“They (the firefighters)  just are giving by nature and by deep in their hearts, and they (firefighters) would just like people to come out and have a good time and raise a bit of additional money to help us find a cure,” Alford continued.

The day-long event will raise money to help kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases live longer and grow stronger.

Attendees will also be able to use their ticket to see the Frederick Keys vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks game and see a fireworks show that evening.

“Local Frederick MDA Ambassador Jillian and her family will be attending the game to thank and cheer on the Frederick Firefighters,” added Alford.
