A 5K will be hosted next month to benefit the Women’s Giving Circle, a charity focused on helping women and children.

Frederick, MD – The Frederick Women’s Distance Festival will be held next month benefiting a charity focused on helping women and children in need.

The festival will be on August 3rd and is hosted at Frederick Community College on Opposumtown Pike.

“There’s a little women 1K fun run at 7:30 in the morning.” Women’s Distance Festival Race Director Harriet Langlois said. “and that’s followed by the main event, the 5k, at 8am.”

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Women’s Giving Circle, a charity focused on making contributions to local non-profits through grant programs.

“The mission is collective giving within Frederick County to support women and children,” WGC Outreach Coordinator Carole Heine said. “Our impact has been huge.”

Heine said the WGC has given over $1.6 million back into the community since it was founded in 2006.

Langlois said the race is women only and welcomes runners from all ages and abilities.

“We find our runners say things like ‘I never thought I was a runner, I never thought I could be in a race, but I look around and I see people just like me,'” Langlois said. “It’s a vey comfortable and empowering environment.”
