New Day For Closure Of Rt. 140 Bridge In Emmitsburg

SHA says it will take place next week.

Emmitsburg, Md (KM) The concrete deck pour for the new Route 140 bridge over Flat Run in Emmitsburg has been rescheduled. The State Highway Administration says it was expected to take place Friday night into Saturday morning, but it will now take place beginning at 8:00 PM on Monday, July 15th through Tuesday, July 16th until 5:00 AM.

SHA says theĀ  concrete pour will cover the deck, or driving surface, of the bridge. It’s part of a replacement project for the span which was first constructed more than 80 years ago, and has outlived its useful life, according to SHA officials.

The new bridge is expected to be finished and ready for traffic by early August, according to SHA spokesman Charlie Gischlar.

He says it will have wider lanes, along with some bike lanes. More than 5,000 motorists use that span each day, SHA says.

The project is expected to cost $4.3-million dollars.

That stretch of Route 140 is also known as Main Street East in Emmitsburg.
