Usually closed, the Worthington House is to be opened to the public for one day only.
Frederick, MD – Frederick is home to several historic Civil War landmarks.
One of which is the Worthington Farm, which saw the Battle of Monocacy being fought on its own front lawn.
155 years later, the National Park Service is opening the Worthington House to the public. Jana McCabe of the NPS said the house will only be open for one day only on July 20.
“We have only opened [the house] a few times before,” McCabe said. “The house is in really fragile condition.”
The house will be open from 10am-4pm. McCabe said if people can’t make the Worthington opening, there will also be an opening of the Thomas house on August 17 which witnessed significant portions of the Monocacy battle.
“The house experienced significant damage during the battle,” McCabe said. “Some of those scars are still visible.”
