Frederick Hospice Hosts Community Event for Overdose Awareness

The event features resource expo and several speakers and presentations.

Frederick, MD – Hospice of Frederick County is hosting a community event this Saturday to recognize International Overdose Awareness Day.

“End the Stigma, End the Silence,” is free to the public and seeks to raise awareness, reducing the rate of overdoses.

“Our target audience includes anyone in our community,” Frederick County Hospice Bereavement Coordinator Kaili van Waveren said. “Everyone is aware there is an opioid crisis in our country, but Frederick County has been disproportionately affected.”

The event will be held from 4-7pm at New Spire Arts, 15 W. Patrick Street in Downtown Frederick. The event will kick off with a community resource expo presented by various organizations, and several speakers will present from 5-7.

“We are doing this from a harm-reduction standpoint,” Van Waveren said. “Rather than from an abstinence perspective.”
