Frederick, MD – National Recovery Month is this September with Frederick County observing the month with by launching Frederick County Goes Purple.
Frederick County Goes Purple is a collection of organizations dedicated to raising awareness and reducing substance-related deaths and overdoses.
The partnership includes crossedBRIDGES, Frederick County Government, Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, Frederick County Health Department,, Frederick County Public Schools, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Frederick County Municipalities, community organizations, private businesses, and individual community members.
The campaign promotes key messages like: We care, hope/help is here, and let’s talk.
Co-Founder of Frederick non-profit Crossed Bridges, Jonathan Switzer said several other counties in Maryland participate in the movement, and wanted Frederick to join the campaign..
“We spent some time talking to them about it and saw the benefit of raising the discussion here in Frederick,” Switzer said. “It’s key for helping to lower the opioid death rate and opioid overdose rate that’s here in Frederick County.”
Frederick Goes Purple kicks off on Saturday, September 7th at Carroll Creek Linear Park with a National Recovery Month Proclamation led Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner and Health Officer Dr. Barbara Bookmyer.
