Maryland State Police Investigate Double Fatal Crash

The two fatalities were ejected from the vehicle.

 

Cumberland, MD 9/7/2019 (RD) Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation into a crash overnight that left two men deceased and two women hospitalized in Allegheny County.

The deceased are identified as Matthew Glaze, 24, of Cumberland, Maryland, and Allen Welch, 18, of Hancock, Maryland. Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The injured driver is identified as Mariah Shoemaker, 18, of Hancock, Maryland. She was transported to Western Maryland Health Center for treatment of her injuries. The other injured passenger is identified as Shawna Mason, 19, also of Hancock, Maryland. She was transported to Meritus Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. The two males, who were passengers in the rear seat, had been ejected from the vehicle.

According to an initial investigation, at approximately 1 a.m. troopers from the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack responded to a single-vehicle crash on eastbound Route 40, west of Sideling Hill Creek in Allegheny County. The preliminary investigation indicates a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by Shoemaker, had driven off the right side of the road.

Alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor in the crash according to investigators. The Maryland State Police Crash Team investigation is continuing. Consultation is being made with the Allegheny County State’s Attorney’s Office regarding possible charges related to this fatal crash.
